End of the first road...

So here we are, the last four matches of the group stages of the World Cup – from here on in, we can see the drama and heartbreak of extra-time and penalties, more tears, instant elimination...

But first we have the following games to go:

POR 1 v 2 BRA (ROBHINO – who I’ve just found out is on the bench...grrrr)

PRK 1 v 2 CIV (DROGBA)

Flattering games have hidden the poorness of the quality of this group, but the first two teams could very well pretend to play for pride, but end up drawing and going through together. Could either be a great game (like their last encounter which resulted in a Brazilian route) or 90 minutes of grown men play acting and rolling around on the floor.

The second encounter could be more fun, with two sternly run teams trying hard to ensure they come out of the tournament with some pride.

CHI 1 v 2 ESP (NAVAS)

SUI 1 v 0 HON (DERDIYOK)

All to play for. South American teams have done very well so far, so Chile will want to be included in the next round. Spain looked much more alive in their second game, but still more is expected of them.

Honduras had not conceded more than two goals in a world cup match before their encounter with Spain. The Swiss struggled and were not helped by a sending off. They’ve looked okay so far, but not killer.

Yesterday’s picks were poor for me...hopefully this lot will be an improvement.
