M-Day 4

So, predictions yesterday weren’t that great – I’ve been a little optimistic for the goal scorers so far, but again, play has been cagey. No match has produced more than 2 goals... at least, that is until Germany (my pick for the overall win) took the field. Granted, it was against Australia, but the Socceroos have been a decent defensive side of late.

Yesterday’s results:

SVN 1 v 0 ALG – looks like group C will be remembered for goalkeeping errors so far.
GHA 1 v 0 SRB – Serbia looked okay, but the sending off was cheap – as were most of their bookings. Ghana looked lively and the penalty was very well taken.
GER 3 v 1 AUS – Germany looked good. Composed, smart on the ball and off of it – brave in attack.
(ooops, I mean GER 4 v 0 AUS)

Today’s predictions:

NED 4 v 1 DEN – Holland are a beautiful team to watch, and now that the floodgates have opened, I expect teams to start taking some more attacking chances. Denmark can be solid, but have looked very weak of late.
JPN 2 v 2 CMR – Cameroon are tough, Japan are industrious. I’m being hopeful for this game for the number of goals, in the spirit of fun.
ITA 1 v 2 PAR – An early shock for the Italians. I expect them to go through, just think that there are enough failings for a good coach to exploit – which Paraguay have.
